CNY PCA Family Picnic

Central New York PCA will hold its annual Family Picnic on Sunday, August 16, 2014.

This will be a relaxing day designed to check out some beautiful Porsches, fraternize with our car buddies, enjoy some good summertime food, kick back,

put our feet up, and enjoy a fine summer day in the shade of tall trees with cool lake breezes brushing past us.

We’ll be back at beautiful Taughannock Falls State Park on Route 89 just north of Ithaca again this year. We have secured the Creekside Pavilion for this year’s picnic– see directions below. The Porsches will be parked for display on the grass with Cayuga Lake in the background. This is a beautiful setting to take great pictures of your favorite car!

We will once again have a “Porsche Kids’ Cross.” We’ll lay out a miniature autocross course for the kids to participate with any non-motorized “vehicle” they would like – scooter, tricycle, bike – whatever they want to bring! We will have all the proper goodies –

Autocross 2015 2nd Event 8/23/15

Our first club autocross was a big success and everybody from novice to expert had a good time!

For those that haven’t been there is a cross between autocross and road course! lots of fun and no cones! just follow the paved road and enjoy! If you have not done an autocross or DE before this is a great chance to check out a driving event.

We have also issued a challenge to the Corvette club to show up and have a friendly competition for best team time of the day

The official competition is for Porsches and it will be based on PCA classes but you can also bring a different vehicle if you must – you will be running for fun and not be scored.

Please RSVP to Mike so we have an idea on how many are coming. darm911@windstream.net

Vintage Races 2015- Watkins Glen

Vintage Races at Watkins Glen 2015!!

yeah, they moved this up a couple of months so they could pave the track…..its confusing but what the hell – it will be fun anyway!!

Glenora Wine Cellars US Vintage Grand Prix is presented by Welliver. The event weekend features over 400 vintage race cars competing over the course of the weekend. Tickets, Camping and more information on the event can be found on the Watkins Glen International website – please mention that you are with CNY PCA and you will get a good discount on the ticket pricing.

If you missed your chance to stay in town last year, consider making reservations for this year right away!  There are numerous hotels & motels in and near town.

This year Niagara will be joining CNY PCA at the track for a gathering at the Bus Stop. Lunch will be served both days  – hamburgers, sausages and hot dogs. A dish to pass would be appreciated. The Bus Stop is a great viewing site for the races – we will have lots of areas to place your folding seat and enjoy the show.

Last year we had the main weekend sponsor and Porsche racer Scott Welliver stop by as well as an unexpected visit from Bobby Allison on Sunday afternoon.

There will be a Porsche trivia quiz during lunch for those of you that would like to try your hand at obscure Porsche facts!

If we get enough people interested we will have a driving tour of the old race track after the races on Saturday, two laps of the old course followed by an expertly guided tour of the famous Seneca Lodge – unofficial home of the Watkins Glen race souvenir collection (including Emerson Fittipaldi’s wreath from his F1 championship season)

CNYPCA has already bought 6 campsites at the Bus Stop for this event (same location as last year). So far 4 sites are taken and we will keep one open(41) for the club seating & activities – so there is one left open if anybody from Niagara is interested. Contact Chris White.

Autocross Results – Cherry Valley 6/13/15

CNY’s first autocross of the season was well attended and all the participates said it was a great experience learning how to get the most out of their Porsches. The overwhelming response from the first timers was an amazement in how their Porsches performed. There is so much potential in these cars that you will never really get an idea on how much until you get to try them out on a closed course in safe conditions.

As part of the CNY Autocross events the days starts out with a cymbalta price ‘track walk’ with the layout of the track explained by an expert and that is followed by a car control clinic for those that are interested in having an instructor on board to help figure out the track and the car. This is a great learning experience for those that have not been involved in high performance driving – I highly recommend this to any Porsche owner, even if you have no interest in the competitive autocross events come on down and learn a little more about your Porsche!

Co chairs Mike Darminio and Gil Wristrup did a great job sorting out the timing gear and putting on a great event. Thanks to Gil and Mike for taking on this huge effort!!

Next event is on August 23rd

Eurocar 2015 results

It was a gloomy day with periods of sun and showers until the deluge hit at about 2:30 PM. However, Porsche pushers stepped up to the bar with 29 on the field (at least 17 PCA members), which was enough to again win the ribbon for “most members from another club.” I will write an article for the newsletter the MG club. My tally is:

Class 17 (pre-1991 911s):

first Gerald Reginelli

second Bob DeLuke

third Mark Singer

Class 18 (pre-1991 all other models):

first Brad Hall

second Mark Baranello

third Pat Rommeraux

Class 23 (post-1991 Porsches):

first Ann Schneiderman

second Joe Pennington

third (Not awarded as almost no ballots were turned in for this class. Apparently most of the assigned judges for this class were among the 36 no-shows or just did not understand the new judging process).
